Eagle Bridge-James Edward Mulligan, 87, of Eagle Bridge, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls surrounded by his family.
Born April 12, 1930 in Victory Mills, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Delina (Venn) Mulligan. Jim attended Cambridge Central School and was a rural mail carrier for 24 years in Eagle Bridge until he retired. After he retired, he started a mail box repair business repairing mail boxes around the area that were damaged. Jim and his wife also owned and operated the Village Store in Eagle Bridge.
Jim was a co-founder, member and past Chief of the Buskirk Fire Dept. and a member of the former St. Monica's Church in Buskirk and attended St. Patrick's Church in Cambridge.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother in infancy and a sister, Catherine McDonald.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Tretola whom he married October 30, 1954 in Fonda; his children, Penny (Doug) McLenithan of Eagle Bridge, James Edward (Robin) Mulligan, Jr. of Buskirk and Sherry (Casey Miles) Mulligan of Pompano Beach, FL. He is also survived by his 3 sisters, Mary Clark of Cambridge, Theresa McMahon of Cambridge and Joan (Art) Greene of Shaftsbury, VT; his grandchildren, Douglas McLenitahn, Bianca Bates, Amanda Fusaro, Stanley McLenithan, Edward Mulligan and Michael Mulligan; great grandchildren, Lilliana Fusaro, Hannah Bates, Winter Bates, Andrew Mulligan, Jonathan Mulligan, Dylan Mulligan and Marshall Mulligan and nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, July 27, 2017 at St. Patrick's Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge with Rev. Martin Fisher officiating.
Interment will be at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.
