Obituary

Greenwich, NY - James Patrick "Jim" Heaney, 61, of Greenwich, New York, passed away unexpectedly on May 27, 2026.

Born November 8, 1964, Jim was raised in Cambridge and was a proud graduate of Cambridge Central School, Class of 1983.

Jim was known for his generous heart and his willingness to help anyone in need. Whether family, friend, or neighbor, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. His kindness, sense of humor, and easygoing nature made him someone people naturally gravitated toward, and he was loved by all who knew him.

Jim had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, Barbequing with his friends, spending time outside with his dogs, and relaxing in his little (Getto pool) as he called it.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Kennedy Heaney. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Heaney, Jr.

Jim is also survived by his companion, Lori Wheland Lybert, her sons Timmy and Brady Lybert. His brothers, Thomas "Skip" (Dawn) Heaney III and Alan Heaney; his sister, Diana (Robert) Heaney; his beloved nieces, Cassandra Heaney and Rachel Markham; his uncle, Mike Kennedy of Stamford, Vermont; his aunt, Colleen Kennedy Bushey of Lake Wales, Florida; many cousins; and many close friends.

In addition to his father, Jim was predeceased by his aunt, Diana Kennedy Smith; his maternal grandparents, Henry and Rita Kennedy; and his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Annis Heaney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge, New York, on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Cambridge, and a Celebration of Life will be held afterward at the American Legion in Cambridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim's memory to Steve Caporizzo's Pet Connection, WTEN News 10 ABC, 341 Northern Boulevard, Albany, NY 12204, or to St. Patrick's Church, 17 South Park Street, Cambridge, NY 12816.

Jim's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
