Salem, NY – James J. “Jim” Connally, age 89, of Salem, NY, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 19, 2026. He was born in Troy, NY the middle child of Edward J. Connally and Elizabeth Gainor Connally. He attended school in Troy and later attended Siena College.

Jim went on to become Chief of the University Police at Albany State, then the Assistant Director. He later was appointed as the Director of the University Police at Utica University. After retiring, he owned and operated The Copper Kettle Restaurant in Cambridge, NY.

He loved the outdoors and traveling. Jim visited Alaska and British Columbia several times. Until his knees gave out, he thoroughly enjoyed rabbit hunting with his beloved beagles. He was well known for his sense of humor and ability to tell a story. One of his favorite stories was the time he shot the Hartford Elk and destroyed a brand new television. Yes, there was some alcohol involved in creating his memory.

Jim is survived by his wife and life partner of over 60 years, Jeanne Connally of Salem, NY; his older brother, Ed of Troy, NY and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his parent and his brothers, Owen, Jack and Tom Connally.
