Buskirk, NY - Hazel Brown Hamilton, 91, of County Route 74, Buskirk, New York passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, after a recent stroke with family members at her side. She was born on the first day of winter, December 21, 1934 in Cambridge, NY to Alfretta (Thurber) and Carl Brown. She lived in Cambridge all of her life.

Hazel married William (Bill) Hamilton in 1954, and were married for 46 years until his death in 2000. They had three sons together; Richard, Wayne and Randy. While raising her sons, she had several jobs: taking care of other small children, working at The Golden Krust Bakery in Greenwich, the Fiesta in Eagle Bridge, Mary McClellan Hospital and Baratto’s Restaurant in Cambridge. Hazel was a proud parishioner of the Whiteside Church, enjoyed crocheting and walking in her younger years, and loved to cook and bake throughout her life.

Hazel is survived by her youngest son, Randy (Margaret) Hamilton of Cambridge, and daughter-in-law, Karen Hamilton of Woodbridge, Virginia. She has two grandchildren; Belinda Schlaser and William (Willy) Harrington of Hoosick Falls, NY and a great granddaughter, Aubrey. Six nephews; Alan Brown of Pennsylvania, Robert (Linda) Brown of Pownal, VT, Jimmy Brown of Montserrat Island, John Hamilton, David (Carol) Hamilton and Terry Hamilton of Cambridge, NY. Six nieces; Pam Brown of Bennington, VT, Teddy Hamilton of Jacksonville, FL, Joy Hamilton of Champaine, Illinois, Joan (Paul) Weber of Buskirk, NY, Vera Mae Trinkle of Cambridge, NY and Linda Hamilton, including multiple great nephews, nieces, and great, great nephews and nieces.

Hazel was predeceased by two sons, Richard of Cambridge, NY and Wayne of Woodbridge, Virginia, two brothers, Robert Brown (sister-in-law, Rose) of Bennington, VT and Harold (Bucky) Brown of Cambridge, NY, and one infant sister, Ruth Emily Brown. Nephews, Bob, Donnie and Carl Hamilton of Cambridge, niece, Beverly (Welling) Standard of Schaghticoke and Connie (Wilbur) Hamilton, Jackie (Korb) Hamilton and Ernest Trinkle all of Cambridge. Services will be held at the Whiteside Church, 331 Center Cambridge Road, Cambridge, NY on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 10 am. A reception will be in the church hall following the service. Interment will be at 1 pm at Woodlands Cemetery, Cambridge, NY.
