Salem - Gloria C. Schroeder, 102, of Salem, passed away Friday, April 3, 2026, at her home.
Born July 6, 1923 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore T. and Evelyn (Fullenbach) Vetrano who were longtime residents of West Hebron.
Gloria was a graduate of Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn and also attended the Brooklyn School of Art. Over the years, she worked as a substitute teacher in the area, serving in several local schools. She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and found great joy in painting, gardening, and traveling. Gloria especially treasured her trips overseas, where she experienced many different places and cultures.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Lisa Schroeder-Dybas and her husband, Dr. Alan Dybas of Willsboro, William Schroeder of Salem, and Lorraine Van Alstyne and her husband, Bryan, of Magnolia, TX; her sister, Dolores Holler. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William C. Schroeder, who passed away in 1995; her daughter, Marilyn Fanti, who passed away in 2008; and her siblings, Salvatore T. Vetrano, Jr., William Vetrano, and Pauline Ciriello.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem, with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating.
