Eagle Bridge-Fred E. Peters, 79, of Eagle Bridge, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Born in White Creek February 4, 1938, he was the son of the late Fred and Hilda (Hoard) Peters. Fred attended a one room schoolhouse in Shushan. He eventually served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.
Fred was a construction worker for nearly 30 years for Local Labors Union 452 in Troy. He worked at many construction sites over the years. Following his retirement, Fred began doing lawn care for many people in the area, which he enjoyed so much for over 20 years as he loved to visit with his customers. For the last 3 years, his special friend, Ashley Austin worked alongside of him.
Fred was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Cambridge. He enjoyed hunting, boating and was proud of his vegetable garden, tended to all kinds of flowers and took great pride in his lawn. Fred loved to play cards with his family and faithfully went to Stewart's in Cambridge to have coffee with his friends. He attended his grandchildren's sporting events and at one time was a coach.
In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his siblings, Chauncey Peters, Elizabeth Bassett, Josephine Crosier, Stanley Peters, Danny Peters and John Peters.
Fred is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Dennison Peters, whom he married February 27, 1960; his children, Eric (Darcy) Peters of Eagle Bridge and Selena (Skip) Clark of Cambridge; his siblings, William Peters of Johnsonville and Annabelle Hansen of Buskirk. He also leaves behind 8 cherished grandchildren, Tyler Clark, Taylor Clark, Tonya Clark, Riley Hunt, Logan Peters, Sierra Bates, Alexandra Wood and Hunter Hagadorn; a cherished great granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Clark and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 4-6 pm Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at St. Patrick's Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge with Rev. Thomas Zelker officiating.
Burial will be at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.
