Obituary

CAMBRIDGE:  Frank W. Root, 83, of Cambridge, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at his residence.

Born September 19, 1933 in Pittsfield, MA, he was the son of J. Gollan P. Root and Marion E. Spencer Root.

Frank attended Pittsfield schools, Tilton Prep and graduated in 1957 from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. degree. He was a US Army veteran, serving in the United States and Germany.  Following military service, he was employed by the Eagle Printing and Binding Co, the family business, eventually retiring from Lockheed-Martin Corp. in 1995.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Martha Jane (Brewer) Root, daughters Karen Root Watkins (Ian) of Concord, MA and Allison B. Bowlin (Mark) of O'Fallon, IL, and son Frank, Jr. (Leslie) of Charlotte, NC, and two sisters, Marion E. Gerlach of Pittsfield, MA and Gayle A. Reu (Tom) of San Pedro, CA.  Frank was predeceased by a brother, Rev. J. Gollan Root of Holyoke, MA.  He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and two stepsons, Paul Misiaszek of Kingman, AZ and Andrew Misiaszek of North Adams, MA.

Frank was an active Mason belonging to Warrensburg Lodge No. 425, a Past Master of Cambridge Valley Lodge No. 481, Federal Chapter No. 10, Royal Arch Masons, and a Past Patron of Cambridge Valley Chapter, No. 147 Order of the Eastern Star.  He also enjoyed entertaining children of all ages as a Shriner Clown and Keystone Kop from Oriental Temple, Troy, NY.

Frank had a passion for the out-of-doors enjoying hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the Newcomb Sportsman's Club, the Salem Fish and Game Club, and Charter President of Taconic Chapter, Trout Unlimited.

Friends may call on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 3-6 pm at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge.  A Masonic Service will be held at 5:45 pm.  A funeral service will begin at 6:00 pm with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating.  Interment will be at the Pittsfield Cemetery in Pittsfield, MA.
