"Libby" (Bateholts) Morse

Cambridge-Elizabeth B. Morse, a devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 23, 2017. "Libby" was born in Schenectady, New York in 1920 as the only child of Charles and Sara Bateholts. She was predeceased by her husband, an attorney and former District Attorney of Washington County, George S. Morse. She is survived by her four sons, George C. Morse, Richard S. Morse, Peter V. Morse and Stephen F. Morse; and three daughters-in-law Jane King Morse, Patricia Callman Morse, and Candace Beak Morse. Darlene Canzeri Morse, wife of Richard, previously passed away. Further, she is survived by eleven grandchildren, and twenty-three great grandchildren.
Elizabeth graduated from Simmons College with a degree in Library Science, and started her career as a children's librarian in Brooklyn, New York. After marrying George and raising her "boys" in Cambridge, New York, she reopened and managed the Mechanicville Public Library and finished her career as the Cambridge Central School librarian. She also served on the board of the Cambridge Public Library for many years.
Active in Republican politics, she served for a time as the President of the Washington County Women's Republican Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader, always with a book at her side. She and a group of friends formed and maintained both a women's bridge and book club.
The family would like to recognize, Gloria Dawley, who provided dedicated personal care and companionship for "Libby" over the last several years.
A calling hour will be from 10-11 am on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church, 81 East Main St., Cambridge. A funeral service will begin at 11 am with Rev. Kate Kotfila officiating.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you make contributions in Elizabeth's name to the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church, 81 E. Main St, Cambridge, New York 21816.
