Cambridge, NY - Eleanor P. Burke, 88, of Cambridge, NY, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT.
Born December 28, 1937, in Granville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Hazel (Van Guilder) Winchell. Eleanor was educated in Granville and spent her early working years at Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge. After dedicating several years to raising her family, she began a career with Stanley Tools in Shaftsbury, VT, where she worked for 29 years before retiring on August 31, 2000. During her time at Stanley Tools, she was actively involved in the company's fundraising efforts and enjoyed contributing to many worthwhile causes.
Eleanor found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved reading novels, working on jigsaw puzzles, baking, cooking, and tending to her flower gardens. In earlier years, she enjoyed square dancing. She was especially devoted to her beloved Pekinese dogs, which brought her much companionship and happiness throughout the years.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Ellen J. Burke of Greenwich and Sally J. (Anthony) Bartholdi of Woodford, VT; her grandson, Seth Bartholdi of Woodford, VT; her sisters, Charlotte Hansen of Queensbury and Lena (Richard) Durkee of Missouri; many nieces and nephews; a very close niece, Stephanie Matthews of Queensbury; and her dear friend, Barbara (Bill) Reynolds of White Creek, NY.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Roland E. Burke, who passed away on October 23, 2008, and by several siblings.
A private interment will be held at Rosewood Cemetery in White Creek under the direction of Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home in Cambridge, NY.
