Rupert, VT-Doris M. Ray, 91, of Rupert, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the Indian River Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Granville.

Doris was born in Rupert June 1, 1925 the daughter of the late Frank and Ruth (Nelson) McKeighan.

She attended school in Rupert and enjoyed ice fishing, hard work, taking long walks and berry picking.  Doris was well known for her homemade peanut brittle.

Doris had lived in Connecticut for 15 years working in the Restaurant business as a hostess & waitress.  She moved back to Rupert in 1972 and worked at the Dorset Inn in Dorset and also McNaughtons Inn in Manchester.

Doris was a member of the Rupert Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Doris was also predeceased by her husband, Frank Ray in 1973; her siblings, Nelson McKeighan, Sterling McKeighan, G. Holden McKeighan and Flora Franklin.

Doris is survived by 2 sisters and a brother, Martha McNeil of Waterford, Agnes Braymer of Rupert and Eli McKeighan of Rupert.  Many nieces and nephews also survive.

A calling hour will be Monday, December 26, 2016 from 11 am to 12 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.  A funeral service will begin at 12 pm with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating.

Interment will be at the Rupert Cemetery on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 10:00 am.
