Obituary

Hebron, NY – David J. Dooley, 68, of Hebron, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2026, at his residence.

David was born in Granville, NY, on December 5, 1957, the son of Evelyn (McCauliffe) Dooley of West Hebron and the late Edwin J. Dooley. He was a graduate of Salem Washington Academy.

For 50 years, David worked as a self-employed contractor throughout Salem and the surrounding communities. Over the years, he worked for countless people and took great pride in his work and the many friendships he made along the way.

David enjoyed woodworking, skiing, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed the pond on his property, where he found great enjoyment and peace. One of his greatest pleasures was taking his grandson, Jude, on tractor rides around the property. David was a member of the Bromley Inn Keepers Ski Club, and in recent years, he began playing golf.

In addition to his mother, Evelyn McCauliffe Dooley of West Hebron, David is survived by his children, Bree Franklin and her husband, Joshua, of Cambridge, and Damien Dooley of West Hebron; his grandson, Jude Franklin; his brother, Brian Dooley and his wife, Diane, of Castleton, NY; and his sister, Laurie Dooley Lourie of West Hebron. He is also survived by his niece and nephews, Craig Dooley and his wife, Melissa, Jordan Lourie, and Meghan McKeighan and her husband, Kyle; and his great-niece and nephews, Grace and Connor Dooley and Dane McKeighan.

David will also be missed by his many friends and by the many customers he had the pleasure of working for throughout his 50 years as a contractor.

In addition to his father, Edwin J. Dooley, David was predeceased by his niece, Andrea Lourie.

Calling hours will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem, NY. A private funeral service will be held for the family.
