Obituary

Cambridge - Charlotte Collamer, 91, passed peacefully into the hands of our loving Lord on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024. She, and her twin sister, Shirley, were born in Bennington, Vt. to Prudie and Curnel Vaughn on March 6, 1933. The Vaughn family resided at Battenkill Farm in West Arlington, VT. Charlotte attended the one room West Arlington Elementary school and Arlington Memorial High School. Their neighbor was the famous Americana artist Norman Rockwell, and son Tommy was one of her school classmates. She was an avid sports enthusiast and participated on numerous field hockey, basketball and softball teams. After high school she earned her RN degree at Gifford Memorial Hospital's nursing school in Randolph, VT. She spent the bulk of her career at Mary McClellan Hospital, initially working as a maternity nurse. She was ultimately promoted to night shift supervisor – a challenging, but rewarding role, that she enjoyed for many years. She also worked as the school nurse at Cambridge and Greenwich Central Schools. She retired in 1995. She married Warren I. Collamer on Oct. 2, 1954, and moved to Ash Grove in Cambridge, NY where they raised four sons, Joel, Dean, Stephen and Mark. Sadly, Warren died suddenly in 1999, leaving a major void in her life. Three years later Charlotte and her Ash Grove neighbor, Terry Morrison, re-kindled their close childhood friendship. In 2004 they moved to Hoosick Falls, where they happily lived until September 2024. In Cambridge, she worshipped at the First Baptist Church and then the Church of the Open Bible, and most recently at the Hoosick Falls First Baptist Church. She was an active participant at the Rensselaer County Sr. Center in Hoosick Falls until the COVID epidemic. Among her favorite activities were raising various farm animals, breeding goats, gardening, scoring bargains at tag sales, and solving word puzzles. Charlotte was predeceased by her siblings, Millard Vaughn, Millicent (Vaughn) Cross, Janice (Vaughn) Coley, brother-in-law, Myron Collamer, and sister-in-law, Priscilla (Collamer) Scriber. She is survived by her children, Joel Collamer (daughter-in-law, Nancy Collamer), Dean Collamer (daughter-in-law, Patty Collamer), Stephen Collamer (daughter-in-law, Jane Collamer), Mark Collamer (daughter-in-law, Rose Collamer), twin sister, Shirley (Vaughn) Boyce (brother-in-law Charlie Boyce), sister-in-law, Beverly (Lyons) Collamer, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and her steadfast companion of many years, Terry Morrison. A celebration of Charlotte's life will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge with visiting hours at 10-11am, followed by the funeral service, and a graveside service immediately after, at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.
