West Rupert, VT – Carol Christine (Watrous) Tifft, formerly of West Rupert, passed away on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. Carol was born January 10th, 1945 in Rupert, Vermont, the daughter of the late Charles Roy Watrous and Ruth (Dennison) Watrous.
Carol attended the Rupert schools and graduated from Washington Academy in Salem, NY. She attended Albany Business College, after which she held positions at Ag Asset in Salem, NY, Dorset Nursing Association and Bennington Rutland Supervisory Union in Manchester, VT.
Carol was very active in the Rupert United Methodist Church, holding positions of Member of the Administrative Board, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher and Chairman of the Outreach Committee. In addition, she worked on the community Old Home Day Committee, taught Vacation Bible School, founded the original Rupert Food Pantry and was the recipient of the 1992 Good Citizen Award.
In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Robert J. Tifft, grandson Daniel and sister Edna.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Tifft and his wife Cindy of Orwell, VT and Brian Tifft and his wife Amy of Salem, NY. Carol was very proud of her eight grandchildren – Devin (Brandy), Daniel, Dylan, Katie (Joe), Hubert, Charlene, Brandan (Paige) and Aria, as well as her seven great-grandchildren Nicholas, Hope, Natalie, Jacklyn, Gianna, Mila and Asher. She also leaves five siblings, cousins and many special friends.
At her request, there will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 15th, 2024 at 10:00am at the Rupert United Methodist Church located at the intersection of VT Route 153 and VT Route 315, Rupert, VT 05776. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of The Cambridge, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital and Fort Hudson Rehabilitation Center for the exceptional care given to Carol.
