Bruce Loomis
Williamson, Jr.
Apr 18, 1950 — Sep 5, 2017
Cambridge-Bruce Loomis Williamson, Jr, a Cambridge resident, died with his sister by his side on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Bruce was born on April 18, 1950 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was predeceased by his parents Bruce Williamson Sr., Betty Volintine, and his best friend Sallie Gerassi. He is survived by his sister, Blaine Kaercher and her husband Tim, their children Caroline, Rob and his wife Katie as well as their children Charlotte and Sam. He is also survived by his brother Brian Volintine and his wife Louise. Additionally, he is survived by many cherished cousins. Bruce grew up in Loudonville, NY. After sustaining a head injury in a car accident as a youth, Bruce persevered and graduated from Shaker High School and attended the Junior College of Albany. He settled in Saratoga where he worked for the Department of Public works. Bruce most enjoyed his coin and antique bottle collections, reading the daily newspapers, and listening to the golden Oldies on his portable radio. His best times recently were the long family drives in the country, stopping to enjoy the beautiful mountains and meadows, turkey and osprey, animals, and ice cream of Washington County. He may be most remembered as a nearly permanent fixture on a Main St. park bench where he met the friendly residents of Cambridge and delighted his family with his "bench stories". He was proud of his friends and family and eager to introduce them; Connie in the bookstore, Jenna at the doughnut cart, Becky at the diner, and countless others. Beautiful scenery, beautiful people. The family would like to thank all the good people of The Mansion who watched over Bruce in his final days with care and compassion extending their goodwill and healing grace to them as well. Special thanks to the direction of Katie Perez and Morgan Jones; Kelly, Brittany, and Logan for the darkest night; Dorlisa for Amazing Grace in the morning; the strength of Gail and the prayers of Lettie, and the support of the cook. Please forgive any omissions. Your kindness is etched in our hearts. Thank you also to Jon Katz whose blog inspired so many to write to Bruce and others, to share their lives while brightening others and building a kingdom of the heart. A service for Bruce will be held at The Mansion, 11 South Union Street, Cambridge, NY on Wednesday September 13, at 10:00 AM.
