Brian Peter
Jennings
Jun 14, 1932 — Jan 10, 2017
Cambridge, Town of Jackson-Brian Peter Jennings, 84, of Cambridge, NY passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY. Born June 14, 1932 in Port Washington, NY, he was the son of James and Alice Jennings.
Brian is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann; his children, Elizabeth Miller (Bruce) of Plandome, NY, Mary Hollyer (William) of Charlestown, MA, Katherine Sydnor (Tony) of Fairfax, VA, James (Jeanne) of Washington Heights, NY, Christopher (Sheri) of Los Angeles, CA and Annie Weber (John) of Brooklyn, NY. Brian was predeceased by his daughter Patricia; son, Brian and grandson, Timothy Miller. Brian is also survived by 19 grandchildren, a sister, Janice Weedman of Boone, Iowa.
Brian was a graduate of Chaminade High School (Class of '50) and University of Notre Dame ('54). His love for the Fighting Irish was fierce and infectious. In addition, Brian graduated from New York University's Stern School of Business with an MBA. Brian also served in the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corps from 1954 until 1956.
Brian spent his entire career with The New York Telephone Company as District Manager. He also served as Water & Fire Commissioner for Manhasset Lakeville Water District, as well as volunteer fireman. In addition, Brian devoted much of his spare time to public service -- as a member of American Legion and Knights of Columbus, and a volunteer for United Way, Special Olympics, and until 2014 Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
Brian and Ann spent 47 years in Manhasset before retiring to his beloved Hedges Lake in Cambridge, NY where he had spent childhood summers. Brian took great pleasure in golfing, tennis and running, having completed 12 Marathons -- qualifying for Boston being the highlight.
But most important, Brian was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather. He was kind, generous, patient, fun-loving, enthusiastic, and full of life. He was a man who was truly loved and admired by all who knew him. And he will be missed.
A mass will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 249 North Main St, Salem, NY with The Very Rev. Martin Fisher officiating, followed by an open house to celebrate Brian's life at The Summit at Saratoga, 1 Perry Rd, Saratoga Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the Jennings Family requests donations be made to the Cambridge Food Pantry, P.O. Box 473, Cambridge, NY 12816 in memory of Brian Jennings.
