Cambridge-Br. Stephen (Everett) Updike, 83, previously of Cambridge, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Albany Medical Center.

He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1952, West point in 1956, and Albany Law School in 1963.  He practiced law in Cambridge, NY for twenty years.  In 1983 he and his wife, Dorothy, joined the newly formed married monastic community at New Skete.

Br. Stephen is survived by his wife, Sr. Melanie (Dorothy); sons, William of Cambridge and Edward and his wife, Nance, of Vermont; a daughter, Kim and her children, Matthew Van, Emily Thi, Grace Hoa, and Anna Linh, of Albany; step daughters, Melinda and her husband, James Lang of Latham and Jana and her husband Richard Maxfield of New Windsor, NY.

A Vigil (viewing) will be Sunday from 6-7:30 pm at the New Skete Monastery, 273 New Skete Lane, Cambridge.  The Divine Liturgy will be Monday at 10:00 am at the New Skete Monastery.  Burial will be in the New Skete Cemetery.
