Hebron - Amos Sanford, formerly of Indianapolis and Clarksville, TN, passed away Saturday morning, February 7, 2026 in Granville, NY at age 86. Born Amos "Tim" Sanford on October 30, 1939, he was the son of Paul Warren Sanford and Margaret Hinshaw Sanford, and the descendent of William Sanford, Revolutionary War Patriot.

Tim married Irma Daher in 1961; she was wise enough to marry this fellow whose only job at that time was a bicycle mechanic at Mathew's Schwinn in Indianapolis, Indiana. They had 57 years together and shared two daughters, Cindy Sanford Rogers (Tom Rogers) of Salem, New York and Sandy Hall of Columbus, Indiana., 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 3 nephews. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his brother, Andrew Sanford of Clarksville, Tennessee.

Tim progressed from fixing bicycles to troubleshooting and repairing jet engines as a Master Electrician for General Motors. If there was a problem, he could fix it and if there was a need for something, he could make it. He made an electric lift chair for his grandmother in the 60's; in the 70's he made a wireless mailbox alert for his Great Aunt, so she wouldn't have to walk her long driveway unnecessarily. In the early 80's, he made a car alarm fashioned out of a smoke alarm and activated with a toggle switch. For fun, he built an electric car in his garage. He always considered his biggest accomplishment to be simply taking care of his family.

The Church of Christ congregations Tim attended over the years were blessed with his rich bass singing voice as well as his comprehensive knowledge of Scripture. In Indianapolis, he and Mom attended Franklin Road and Northeast, Hilldale in Clarksville, and finally Queensbury Church of Christ after Tim and Irma moved to New York in 2011.

We have such great memories of Dad's hand-whistle to call the dog, the paper airplane battles in the living room, and all the baseball games we watched. His ready smile, quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and deep devotion will be missed by all who knew him. Tim's family extend their gratitude to the Salem Rescue Squad, the staff at Holbrook House in Granville, and the Slate Valley Center for their skilled care over the years.

A graveside service will be held at 11 am Friday, May 8, 2026 at the Hebron Cemetery, 751 Chamberlain Mills Road, Salem, NY.
