Buskirk-Walter F. Korb, Sr., 87, of Buskirk, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls.
Walter was born March 31, 1931 in Brooklyn and was the son of the late Jacob and Dorothea (Burger) Korb. He graduated from high school in Port Jefferson, NY.
Walter worked for Northeast Carpenters Union in Albany and New York City for many years until he retired. He worked on the World’s Fair and also the Lincoln Center.
Walter enjoyed soccer, bowling, researching World War II history and collecting Indian Arrowheads. At one time, he played on the German American Soccer team. Walter served in the National Guard for 10 years and had served on the Town of Cambridge Planning Board.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jacqueline Marie “Jackie” Hamilton who passed away December 20, 2016.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bertha Rose (Rothvoss) Korb whom he married August 13, 1954; his children, Katherine Korb of Cambridge and Walter F. Korb, Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Buskirk; son-in-law, Terry G. Hamilton of Cambridge; a brother, George Korb and his wife Renate of Flushing. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 3-5 pm Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. A service will begin at the conclusion of the calling hours at 5:00 pm with Pastor Andrew Strickland officiating.
