Salem-Paul John Skidmore, 68, of Salem, passed away suddenly Friday, March 29, 2019 at Glens Falls Hospital.
Paul was born March 6, 1951 in Cambridge the son of the late Chauncey Peters and Marion Skidmore. He was a 1970 graduate of Salem Washington Academy. Paul enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1970 and was honorably discharged in 1972.
Paul’s career was a truck driver having worked for Tracy’s Material in East Greenwich which eventually became affiliated with Dailey Precast. Paul then worked for Galusha & Sons Trucking in Queensbury for many years until he retired. After he retired, he continued to work part-time for Troy Top Soil, Fane Trucking and then Real Bark & Mulch.
Paul’s passion was old cars and pick up trucks and watching & feeding birds. His dogs were like his children to him. They would go where he would especially downtown watching traffic for hours at a time.
Paul is survived by his longtime companion, Caroline Smith of Salem; his children, Nicole Hurlburt of North Hebron and Amanda Carbone of Middle Falls; a sister, Sandy Ruggles of Shushan; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
Military honors will be on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
