Cambridge-Mary Carmen D’Amato Filer, born August 3, 1936 to Raphael D’Amato and Lila (Martindale) D’Amato in Cambridge NY, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019 at The Pines at Glens Falls, NY. She was 82 years old.
Mary resided in Salem, NY and attended Salem Washington Academy. She worked for 30 years at the Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge retiring 20 years ago. Mary spent several years volunteering with the Salem Rescue Squad. She enjoyed camping with her family when she was young. In her later years she enjoyed puzzles, reading and knitting.
Mary was predeceased by her parents; her son in law, David W. MacQuinn; brother in law, Lee Schwabe; three nephews, Joseph D’Amato, Joshua and Isaac Williams and her granddaughter, Jessica MacQuinn.
She has 6 children who survive her, William (Andrea) Filer of Salem, Hollie (John) Rapp of Gansevoort, NY, Cindy MacQuinn of Greenwich, NY, Wanda Robinson of Salem, NY, Thomas (Donna Hayes) Filer of Anchorage, AK, and Jacqueline (Chris) Conine of Fort Edward, NY. She was the oldest of three sisters and is survived by Patricia Zucco and her husband Richard of Chatham, NY and Beverly Schwabe and her fiancé Steven Nelson of Oceanside, CA and Salem, NY.
Mary is also survived by her paternal aunt, Adeline Santoro of Massachusetts. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews as well as cousins.
Mary’s family is deeply grateful for the care given to her by the caregivers at the Pines Nursing Home - she really appreciated all they did for her.

As per Mary’s wishes there will be no calling hours. All are welcome to a memorial service at 12:00 pm Friday, May 3, 2019 at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Salem.
