Salem-John J. “Jack” Potvin, 86, of Salem, passed away peacefully Monday, June 25, 2018 at his residence with his family by his side.
Jack was born in Hudson Falls September 16, 1931 the son of the late Maurice and Eva (Terrio) Potvin. He attended St. Paul’s School in Hudson Falls. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He had worked a short time at Native Textile in Glens Falls and then went to work at Glens Falls Cement Co. working his way up to the position of Supervisor of the Quarry. Jack retired with over 40 years of service.
Jack enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and watching the New York Yankees. He loved to travel especially to Rye Beach in New Hampshire. When Jack was relaxing at home, he would sit on his front porch enjoying the flowers and humming birds.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Jim Potvin and a sister, Liz Roberts.
Jack is survived by his longtime companion of 37 years, Mary Stewart; his sons, John D. Potvin and his companion, Patricia L. Kennedy of Fort Ann and Joseph R. Potvin of Hudson Falls. He is also survived by a brother, Bruce Potvin of Rye, NH; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be at 10:00 am Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
