Irene M. (Reis) Roth

Cambridge-Irene M. Roth, 90, of Cambridge, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born May 13, 1928 in Astoria, Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Irene (Record) Reis.  Irene graduated from Bryant High School in Astoria and attended the Eastern School for Medical Technology in Manhattan.

Irene was a Medical Technologist at Bellevue Hospital in New York City.  Along with her husband Michael G. Rice, III, owned Flushing Laboratories in Whitestone, Queens, NY.  She then worked at Louis Marshall Laboratories in Great Neck, NY.

At the age of 70, Irene started her own Llama Farm with 2 Llamas.  In 3 years, the farm grew to 14 Llamas.  She could be seen at local craft fairs, especially Norman’s Attic and The Harvest Fest, both in Arlington.  She also went to the Christmas Craft Fair at Cambridge Central School.  As Irene attended the fairs, she always had her spinning wheel with her.

Irene was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington.  She was a member of the International Llama Registry and the New York Llama & Alpaca Association.

Irene was predeceased by her first husband, Michael G. Rice, III, a NYS Assemblyman from 1953 to 1965; her second husband, Richard C. Roth, an engineer with the City of New York in the Dept. of Records.

She is survived by her son, Michael G. Rice, IV of Cambridge; a grandson, Michael G. Rice, V and his wife Ashley Schneider-Rice of Rockville Centre, NY.

A Requiem Mass with Holy Eucharist will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, August 30, 2018 at St. James Episcopal Church, 46 Church St., Arlington with Fr. John Miller and Fr. Paul Gratz officiating.

Interment will be at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105-9959 would be appreciated.
