Bennington-Eugene Olivier “Gene” Morneault, born June 21, 1938, to Olivier Morneault and Irene Theriault, passed away July 13th at his residence in Bennington, Vermont.
Gene was born at home in Frenchville, Maine. He left school after the 8th grade to work in the woods with his uncle’s logging business to help support his family. Over the years he became quite the tradesman; he built everything from dentures to bridges! His most recent job, prior to retirement, was foreman to a construction crew that built condominiums at a local ski resort. He was very proud of this job and enjoyed sharing many stories.
Gene had a love for music. He learned to play by ear at a young age. He could play any instrument. He enjoyed “jam sessions” at the bluegrass festivals and played at local clubs and most recently played at a nursing home. He made a CD with “The Gene Moore band”. He always had a guitar pick in his pocket.
Gene was predeceased by his parents, his son John and the love of his life, his wife, Carolyn.
Gene is survived by his children, Jackie Delap of Canton, CT, Lorrie Morneault of California, Lynn (David) Glass of Minnesota, Kelly (Craig) Watrous of Granville, Eugene (Tammie) Morneault of Hartford, CT, Kim Griffin of Cambridge, NY, Dawn (Tony) Condon of Queensbury, NY, and Nadine WhiteEagle of Hubbardton, VT. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and his baby “Precious”.
Gene’s strong faith in God has led him to his eternal rest.
