Elizabeth Dole Hughes

Shrewsbury, MA-On Thursday, December 27, 2018, Elizabeth Dole Hughes passed away at the age of 74. 

She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on June 7, 1944, to Charles Dole and Jean Dodge. She grew up in Atherton, California and received her degree in Mathematics from Radcliffe College, where she met her husband of 53 years, Edward Hughes.

Elizabeth loved the Lord Jesus, her husband Ted, her children, her grandchildren and everyone she met. She loved spending time with her family, hosting families and friends for holidays, cooking for everyone who walked in her front door, and caring for the babies and children around her. She was a devoted caregiver; her affinity and love for people was contagious. She had many hobbies, including knitting for her grandchildren, going to Bible study, solving math riddles and puzzles, singing, reading survival memoirs, and baking bread and cookies. She loved celebrations: celebrations of life, of Jesus’ birth and resurrection, of birthdays, of graduations, and of weddings. For Elizabeth, each day was worth celebrating. 

She is survived by her husband Ted, her children Anne Crozier, Joan Moreau, Hugh Hughes, and Ted Hughes, her 22 grandchildren, her brothers Charley Dole and Jim Wickett, and her sister Bird McIver. She is preceded in death by her brother John Wickett and grandson Evan Hughes. 

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at the Coila Church, 93 State Route 372, Cambridge, NY. A funeral service will be at 10:00 am Thursday at the church.  Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls, NY.  There will also be a memorial service for those living in the Worcester, MA area at a later date.
