Salem- Betsy Lincoln Bashaw, 71, of Salem, NY passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Crescent Manor in Bennington, VT.
Born February 23, 1947 in Ware, MA, she was the daughter of the late Roger and Elizabeth (Howe) Lincoln.
Betsy graduated from Ware High School and also the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and Mt. Ida College.
Betsy was a Research Animal Caretaker at Skidmore College; a Manager at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; a Manager of Animal Resources at Albany Medical College; a Supervisor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School; a Supervisor at Virogenetics Corporation and a Supervisor at the State University of New York Research Foundation. This was her passion.
Betsy thoroughly enjoyed singing in the Battenkill Chorale and was a charter member. She also sang in the AMC Chorus. Betsy was a member of the Southern Adirondack Bee Keepers Association and a member of the Empire State Honey Producers Association.
Betsy enjoyed bee keeping, was an avid reader, enjoyed singing, music, art, nature and attending family activities. She loved farming, writing and baking. She raised free-range chickens and sold her eggs and raw honey to various Co-ops throughout the state. She wrote stories and poetry. She loved her home and most of all her family! She was most proud of her children and all that they have accomplished in their lives.
Betsy is survived by her children, Nathan Bashaw (Kathy) of Salem, NY; Jonas Bashaw (Jessica) of Cambridge, NY; and Molly Liepold (Johannes) of Wurzburg, Germany. She is also survived by her siblings, Pete Lincoln (Debbie), Tim Lincoln (Beth), Mike Lincoln, Nancy Stoll (Phil) and Roger Lincoln (Susan); her wonderful grandchildren, Logan, Scarlett, Bobby, Marisa, Chase and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, Inc. 19 East Broadway, Salem. All are invited to gather in celebration of Betsy after the services at the Salem Volunteer Fire Department in Salem, NY with music, singing and her favorite pies!
In lieu of flowers, please plant a flowering tree, bush or plant that the bees can come back to every year! Memorial contributions, in memory of Betsy, may be mailed to Nate Bashaw, 22 Bowers Lane, Salem, NY 12865. The contributions will be divided and sent to many of Betsy’s favorite foundations. Or you can send a contribution to a charity of one’s choosing.
