Richard W. McCauley

Shushan – Richard W. McCauley, 61, of Shushan, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024 at his residence.

Rick was born January 17, 1963 in Cambridge the son of Richard L. McCauley and Audrey Motsiff McCauley Moon.

Rick was a 1981 graduate of Salem Washington Academy and played the trumpet throughout his high school years.  He attended SUNY Canton where he received an Associate’s degree in 1983.

Rick was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Persian Gulf War and was able to see many countries and during his travels with the Navy, he purchased and played the concertina and mandolin which he taught himself how to play along with the guitar and harmonica.

He was a 45-year member of the Shushan United Presbyterian Church and faithfully read the bible.  Rick enjoyed science and reading science magazines.  He was always trying to invent a way of making power from the wind.  He loved the outdoors and climbed to the top of Mt. Marcy in September of 1999.

In addition to his parents, Rick is survived by his siblings, Dawn M. Maher of San Francisco, CA, Chad E. McCauley and his wife Wendy of Cambridge and Annette Rivard and her husband Dan of Edina, MN; nieces and nephews, Jessie & Ethan McCauley, Ardi & Yasamin Maher, Tyler & Ryan Rivard; a great grandniece, Hanna Maher.  He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rick’s family thanks Aunt Janet Record Ryan for her love, care and support given to Rick over the last several months.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the Shushan United Presbyterian Church, 730 County Route 64, Shushan with Rev. Carol Finke officiating.  There will be a calling hour from 12-1 pm prior to the service.

Interment with military honors will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Salem.
