Cambridge – Norma B. Nilsen, 88, of Cambridge, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Glens Falls Hospital from a sudden illness of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
She was born November 14, 1935 in Cambridge the daughter of the late Donald and Hazel (Lawrence) Hillman.
Norma attended Cambridge Central School and transferred to Greenwich Central School where she graduated in 1954. She grew up on a dairy farm and along with her husband Ole, they operated Peterson’s Turkey Farm. Norma then worked at Owl Kill Farm until going to work at Oak Materials in Hoosick Falls and retired from WCW Mattress Co.in Hoosick Falls retiring after 20 years at the age of 75.
Norma was a member of the former Coila Presbyterian Church and was a 27-year member of the Town of Jackson Planning Board and served as an Election Officer. Norma enjoyed her flower gardens, reading, antiquing, auctioning, feeding & watching the birds. Most importantly, she enjoyed her family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ole Gotthard Nilsen who she married January 22, 1955, he passed away January 13, 1995; a son, Carl Nilsen who passed away September 5, 2007; a sister, Janice Alexander who passed away February 5, 2014.
Norma is survived by her children, Kris Nilsen of Saratoga, CA, Bruce (Kathy) Nilsen of Princetown and Brian (Noelle) Nilsen of Greenwich; her grandchildren, Ryan (Lacey) Nilsen, Celia (Wes) Nilsen, Kirk (Lori) Nilsen, Torr Nilsen and several beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 4-7 pm Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. A graveside service will be at 11 am Friday, March 15, 2024 at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge with Rev. Peter Bailey officiating.
