Eagle Bridge-Walter O. Trautwein, 85, of Eagle Bridge, passed away peacefully Friday, March 30, 2018 at his residence with his family by his side.
Born June 17, 1932 in White Plains, he was the son of the late Frank James and Elsie Ina (Lang) Trautwein.
Walter graduated from Scarsdale High School in Scarsdale, NY and attended college at Delhi.
He was a machinist at GPL in Pleasantville, NY for 10 years. He then was the co-owner of Sheehey Building Co. in Brooklyn. Walter also manufactured and distributed early Ford parts for the last 25 years.
He and his late wife, Mary moved to Cambridge in 1976 from Thornwood, NY. Walter enjoyed restoring early Ford’s; cutting firewood on his mountain property. He had made trips across country to sell his early Ford parts to car flea markets. Most importantly, Walter’s family was important to him. He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Early Ford V-8 Club.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary Brantly Trautwein who passed away in 1998; a son, Walter B. Trautwein who passed away in 1981.
Walter is survived by his children, H. Lee (Ed) Firlit of Gansevoort and Tom (Amie) Trautwein of Cambridge; a sister, Joan Sheehey of Scarsdale; grandchildren, Leah (Josiah) Scully, Hayden Trautwein, Justin, Alex and Benjamin Firlit and 2 nephews.
Funeral services will be held privately at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.
