Eagle Bridge-Stefan J. Stefanovich, Sr., 91, of Eagle Bridge, passed away peacefully Friday, February 2, 2018 at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls.
Born June 1, 1926 in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Melicher) Stefanovich.
Stefan moved to Cambridge in 1930 and attended a one room schoolhouse in Ash Grove and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1943. He had worked on the family farm until he was drafted in 1946 to the U.S. Army. He served in the 8th Army Signal Corp. Occupation of Japan until 1947 when he was discharged.
Stefan continued dairy farming after his discharge in Eagle Bridge for 34 years. He was also a school bus driver for 26 years for the Cambridge Central School. Stefan also served one term as the Town of White Creek Highway Superintendent.
He enjoyed hunting, bowling and was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Cambridge.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Anna Stefanovich.
Stefan is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Goldsmith Stefanovich; his children, Stefan (Deanne) Stefanovich, Jr. of Eagle Bridge, Michael Stefanovich of Eagle Bridge and Lisa (David) Omicinski of Scotia; his two sisters, Mary Milkiewicz of Wynantskill and Julia Waite of Windsor, VT; grandchildren, Stefan J. Stefanovich, Christopher Omicinski, Daniel Omicinski & Thomas Omicinski; a great granddaughter, Izabella Stefanovich.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge with Rev. Thomas Zelker officiating.
Interment will be at a later date at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Cambridge.
