Salem- Ruffle A. Boice, 78, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at her residence. Ruffle picked this wonderful time of year to join her husband of 60 years and spend Christmas and their anniversary (January 11, 2017) together.  Ruffle was born August 13, 1939, in Waterbury, Connecticut. She was the daughter of the late Chester and Aline Bassett.

Ruffle attended Salem Washington Academy and enlisted in the U. S. Air Force serving her country from 1957 to 1960.

Ruffle was a stay at home mom from 1970 until 1991 when she raised her children. She spent those years cleaning her home where it was a known fact it was so clean "you can eat off the floors". In 1991 Ruffle became an LPN and worked at the Vermont Veterans Home for five years.

In Ruffle's later years of life she was the full time caregiver for her husband Marshall J. Boice who had Alzheimer’s disease. Ruffle was very good to him during this time. Being a caregiver for a loved one is a very hard task and she did this for seven years.

Ruffle loved all of her puppies Christmas, Lila, and Peaches!

In addition to her parents Ruffle is predeceased by her husband, Marshall J. Boice, Sr., daughter, Crystal Ann Boice, brother, Lyle Bassett, her great-grandson, Braydon Alexander Keys, and one dog "Christmas".

Ruffle is survived by her children James Boice of Plymouth, Indiana, Marshall Boice, Jr. of Hudson Falls, NY and Krystal Burch (Greg) of Salem, NY, and her dogs Lila and Peaches and her grand-dogs Lakota and JayDee. She is also survived by her brothers, Chester Bassett, Jr. of Glens Falls and Vaughn Bassett of Hartford, NY; one sister, June (Bassett) Hanlon and her brother-in-law Charles Boice (Lois) of Fort Meade, Florida, Philip Sica of Cambridge.  Ruffle also leaves behind three grandchildren, Alexander (Kate Loveland) Keys who's wedding she will attend from up above. Brittany Boice and Marshall Boice, III; one great-grandchild, Noah David (Boice) Watrous, born November 17th whom she was able to meet before passing.

A funeral service will be held at her residence, 32 Gillis Hill Road, Salem, NY on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 6 pm to enjoy the beautiful holiday decorations in her home. Calling hours will be from 3-6 prior to service at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Salem Vol. Fire Department, P.O. Box 449, Salem, NY 12865 where her Grandson Alex Keys is a member.

Special thanks to Eva Knapp to help with the caretaking role that Krystal took on so Ruffle could be comfortable at her home, where she wanted to pass, and all who contacted Krystal during the difficult time. Stacy Loya for going above and beyond by reaching out to make Ruffle look even more beautiful for Thanksgiving and for the support. And to Jeanne Gilchrist Smith who never missed a day asking how things were going. And Greg Burch for helping with building a ramp to get Rufffle in her home and his support.  To everyone thank you, you made this a peaceful time for Ruffle and Krystal.
