Rupert, VT-Robert E. Matteson, 84, of Rupert, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 at the Crescent Manor Nursing Home in Bennington.

Bob was born August 6, 1932 in Brattleboro, VT the son of the late Claude and Ida (LaBatt) Matteson.

Bob was educated in Rupert and worked as a logger for many area logging companies.  He had served as the Town of Rupert Road Commissioner and then worked for Saddleback Farm in Dorset, VT for 30 years before retiring in 2004.

Bob enjoyed feeding birds, hunting and fishing.  He was a lifetime member of the Professional Firefighters Association.

In addition to his parents, Bob is predeceased by 2 sons, Rocky Matteson and Almond Matteson; a daughter, Roberta Matteson; his longtime companion, Pauline Dunbar; a grandson, Justin Matteson; a great grandson, Zachary Matteson; his siblings, Donald Matteson, Patricia Greene, Claude Matteson, Almond Matteson and William Matteson.

Bob is survived by his children, Sandra (David) Maxwell of Albany, Janet (Joe Waite) Stannard of Dorset, VT, Richard (Sandy) Matteson of Brattleboro, Eugene Matteson of Dorset, Carol (Michael) Sheldon of Pawlet, Doreen (Doug) Maxwell of Jackson, NY, Kelli (Dan) Raymond of West Rupert and Rose (Michael) Watrous of West Rupert; Pauline’s children, Dixie (David) McKeighan of Hudson Falls, Cherry (Jack) Shaler of Littleton, CO, Fawn (Erwin) Tobin of Rupert and their families.  Bob is also survived by his siblings, Mary (Silvio) Forrett of Dumerston, VT, Geraldine Sherman of West Rupert, Ruth Cary of Hebron, NY and 23 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 am Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Rupert Cemetery in Rupert, VT with Rev. Jordan "Skip" Dickinson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Pine West Plaza, Building 4, Suite 405, Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY  12205 or to a charity of one’s choice.
