Cambridge-Robert D. Ast, 66, of Cambridge, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at his residence, two days after his father, Charles R. Ast, Jr.
Bob was born in Manhattan on December 25, 1950 and was the son of Margaret Garger Ast of Cambridge and the late Charles R. Ast, Jr.
Following high school, he served in the U.S. Military during the Vietnam Era. Bob then worked for Verizon in New York City as a lineman and shop steward. Following retirement, he moved from the Bronx to Cambridge where he enjoyed the remainder of his years.
Bob’s favorite hobbies included feeding and watching the birds, spending time at his favorite watering hole, Foggy Notions (The Bog) where he earned the name “Bronx Bob”. Bob enjoyed playing golf and cards at the American Legion in Greenwich and keeping the fires going at the Hunting Camp of the Guidons’
In addition to his mother Margaret, Bob is survived by his partner of 9 years, Penny Severson of Cambridge; Penny’s son, Marc Dupuis whom Bob loved like a son; sister, Carolyn (Tom) Lippitt of Victory Mills; 1 niece and 2 nephews, Kimberly Thomas, Eric (Renee) Laki, Robert C. Murnane and aunts, uncles, great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 10 am-12 pm at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm at the conclusion of the calling hours with Jeffrey C. Peck, Parish Life Director of St. Patrick’s Church officiating.
Interment will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
