Salem-Michael D. Myers, 71, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in the comfort of his home under the care of his family and Community Hospice.

Michael was born in Buffalo on May 29, 1946 and was the son of the late Frederick and Loretta (Callahan) Myers.

Michael graduated from Clarence High School in Clarence, NY and attended Rosary Hill College in Amherst, NY majoring in Art, where he met his future wife, Debra McGeoch from Cambridge, NY.

While living in Buffalo, he worked in the family construction business and eventually settled in the Salem area where he built his home.  Michael owned and operated the Paper and Pine Bookstore in Cambridge.  He had a passion for oil painting along with reading, watching TV, playing Scrabble and also playing Pitch with his wife and friends.  Michael loved watching Jeopardy and always knew the answers before the contestants did.  He was a big fan of the Buffalo Bills and loved living along the Batten Kill, spending time outdoors by the river.  Michael had a great sense of humor telling many stories.  He and his wife were very involved with animal rescue providing homes for many animals over the years.

Michael enjoyed attending bible studies with his friends at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Cambridge.  After becoming ill, Michael always looked forward to his weekly Friday night movie-athon with his niece Bailey.  This brought him great joy.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, John William Myers; siblings, Timothy, Maria, Jeffrey & Marjorie.

Michael is survived by his wife of 41 years, Debra McGeoch Myers whom he married July 8, 1976; a son, Roger Myers of Hudson Falls; siblings, Susan Srutowski of Mountain Home, AR, Mary Jane Tiburzi of Buffalo and Mark Tiburzi of Buffalo; a grandson, Mason Michael Myers of Hudson Falls; sister-in-law, Leslie (Paul Larson) Guidon of Cambridge; a niece, Bailey Guidon of Cambridge; special caregiver, Georgianna LaFlamme of Greenwich.

Friends may call on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 4-6 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem where a brief prayer service will be held at the conclusion of the calling hours.

Interment will be held privately for the family at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.

Any memorial donations in Michael's memory will be donated to local animal rescue groups by the family.
