Cambridge-James “Jim” Young died at his residence on April 16, 2918 in Cambridge, NY. He was 70 years old.
Mr. Young was born November 4, 1947 in Bennington VT. He attended Sacred Heart School and Bennington Catholic High School. After graduation, he worked in the dietary department at Putman Memorial Hospital until his enlistment in the Air Force. He served as a Sergeant and served from 1966 to 1971. This included a tour in Laos from 1967 to late 1968.
Mr. Young was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also what he referred to himself as a “kitchen table gunsmith”. When not in the outdoors or working on guns, he would take his faithful dog “Millie” for rides to visit relatives and friends.
Jim worked at Globe Union (Johnson Control) until it closed in 1993, at which time he retired.
Mr. Young is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Ashley (Buckley) Young of Selkirk NY, his sisters and brother-in-law’s, Janet and Dan Lucy of Bennington VT, Lynn and Tom Cote of Hookset NH and his brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Mary Jane (Smith) Young of Cambridge NY, and his ex-wife Cheryl (Bakaitis) Labshere of Johnsonville NY, granddaughter Keisha Young of Hoosick Falls and his two great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews- Isiah, Noah and Talia Cote; Rebecca and Ethan Young; Nicholas and Alison Young, Shannon, Kate, Breanne and Michael Lucy and a great niece and great nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Lorraine (Gauthier) Young, his brother Paul Young and sister in-law, Claudia (Fitzpatrick) Young and his daughter, Kim Young.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 4-6 pm at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge. A memorial service will begin at 6:00 pm.
