Salem- Betty Ann Ouellette, 76, of Salem, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital with her family by her side.

Betty was born October 3, 1940 in Burlington, Vt. and was the daughter of the late Warner and Margaret Ladeau Coates.

Betty graduated from Bellows Falls High School in Bellows Falls, VT and had worked at the Burger Den Restaurant in Cambridge, NY, as a waitress for 26 years retiring in 2009.

In Betty's early married years, she was an avid bowler, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and other crafts, and being involved with church functions. 

She and her husband, Don, spent many happy times & travel with late longtime friends Charlie & Lu Eddy. She and her family enjoyed spending holidays with her parents and siblings in Bellows Falls, VT and NH, as well as vacationing every year to camp at Fairfield Pond, Fairfield, VT to spend time with long-time friends, Clarence & Dorothy Bocash, and visiting her husband’s parents and relatives in Westfield and Camden, Maine. Betty also enjoyed trips to Kueka Lake, NY with her late dear friend Ann Young, and Disney World with her longtime friend Dena Cristaldi. 

Upon her husband’s passing, she lived with and was lovingly cared for by her son, Donny, daughter-in-law, Debbie, and granddaughter , Amy, while enjoying regular visits to St. Albans Bay, VT to stay with her daughter Donda and son-in-law Jeff, as well as visiting her daughter Peggy and son-in-law Mike, in Schenectady, NY.

Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her family & friends, using her iPad, playing solitaire, watching and feeding the birds, blueberry & strawberry picking, eating ice cream, and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and perform in plays and concerts.  

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Donald E. Ouellette, Sr. who passed away May 28, 2012.

Betty is survived by her children, Donald E. Ouellette, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Salem, Donda Lee Thibault and her husband Jeffrey of St. Albans, VT and Margaret “Peggy” Ann Slocum and her husband Michael of Schenectady; her siblings, Linda Pierce and her husband Brian of Ellenton, FL, Robert Coates and his wife Mary of Keene, NH and Cheyrl Eddy and her companion Dan Parker of Johnsonville, NY. Betty also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Brad Benson, Amy Lathrop, Craig Benson, Alex Thibault, Ben Thibault, Brian Ouellette and Brooke Slocum; her cherished great-grandchildren, Tyler Lathrop, Colt Lathrop, Aidan Lathrop, Avery Benson-Shatz, Madalyn Benson, Piper Benson, Owen Benson, Autumn Benson, Gianna Angelo, Dahlia Ouellette and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, July 9th at 2 pm at the Cambridge Methodist Church, 41 East Main St., Cambridge, NY with Pastor Debbie Earthrowl officiating. Betty’s family invites everyone to join them for light refreshments in the church hall following the services.

The family would like to thank the staff at Saratoga Hospital for the care and dignity given to Betty during her long stay. We would also like to thank the staff at Glens Falls Hospital, The Washington Center in Argyle, and Hospice.
